Villanova had a five-game winning streak snapped at Richmond, yesterday. The 23-0 loss was the first time the Cats have been held scoreless since a 17-0 loss to JMU in 2004. ‘Nova falls to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAA while the Spiders advance to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
The game was expected to be a defensive battle - and it was. The Cats were held to only 222 yards of total offense - due in part to an injury to quarterback, Zach Behdnarczyk who left the game in the second quarter and was replaced by sophomore, quarterback, Adeyemi DaSilva.
The ‘Nova defensive effort was led by strong performances by Austin Calitro (12 tackles), Rob Rolle (11 tackles), and Tanoh Kpassagnon (four tackles and a sack). The Cats allowed only 106 net yards rushing but permitted 218 yards through the air.
Villanova punter, John Hinchen continues to have a strong season. He averaged 48.3 yards for his six punts. In the third quarter he flipped the field with a career-high, boot of 71 yards that pinned the Spiders at their 10-yard line.
The Cats next game will be at 3:30 Saturday - a homecoming tilt with Albany at Villanova Stadium. Stop by tailgate spots 109-111 to join the VUSports homecoming tailgate and chat about ‘Nova football and basketball with like-minded Villanova loyalists.
