Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree Talks NLI

At Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia this afternoon, Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree will sign his NLI to Villanova

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree (6-9, 210 lbs, Forward, Neumann-Goretti (PA)) spoke with VUSports last night about his plans for today - the first day of the early signing period for NCAA Division 1 college basketball.

He will put his signature on his NLI at about 3:00 PM at an event being held at his High School.  This will formalize the verbal commitment to Villanova that Cosby-Roundtree announced via twitter on April 22nd.  He recently attended Hoops Mania while on his official visit to 'Nova the weekend of 28 October.

VUSports: Will you have a signing day event at Neumann-Goretti for all the students that are signing tomorrow or will you be signing your letter and then faxing it over on your own?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: We are doing something at 3:00 at my school.

VUSports: How does it feel knowing that Wednesday is a big day for you?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I am excited to have it be official that I am going to Villanova.

VUSports: What were your thoughts on Hoops Mania?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I had a lot of fun at Hoops Mania.  The team - they look really good even though Omari [Spellman] is going to be out, they look pretty good for the upcoming season.  I wasn’t a big fan of Wiz Khalifa's performance.

VUSports: Why is that?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I, personally, don’t listen to his music.

VUSports: What are your personal goals for your Senior season at Neumann-Goretti?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I want to be the Player of the Year for Pennsylvania.  I want Neumann-Goretti, as a team, to win the whole thing - to be the National Champion.  I want to be able to hit a consistent mid-range jump shot and I want to win everything really - I can’t explain it  any better than that.

VUSports: So it isn’t just about winning the Catholic League and the States this year for Neumann-Goretti, you want to see some of those papers and polls that name the top high schools nationally name your school as the best in the country?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: Yes.  We are playing in the City of Palms Classic, we play in the National Hall Of Fame Game in Boston and I just want to win every game so we can have our name up there and be the top team in the country.

VUSports: Does Quade Green know that you are going to win State Player of the Year?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: Yeah, I told him already that that is my goal so that is going to be a little conversation between us.

VUSports: Did you strike up a friendship with any of the Villanova players or with Jermaine Samuels or other recruits during your official visit and Hoops Mania?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I am familiar with Lonnie Walker because I played with him in AAU the past year.  I have been talking with Jermaine here and there and I kind of know most of the team.  I knew Donte [DiVincenzo] from when I played AAU as well.  I talk with them when I see them and kind of build that relationship with them so that they know when I come in that I am handling my business.

VUSports: It is a bit odd the number of big men that Jay Wright has right now, do you feel that your face-up game (which from what I have seen when I have seen you play recently now includes some ability to put the ball on the floor from mid-range and to knock down some mid-range jumpers) will allow you to play some at the 4 and some at the 5 when you get to Villanova?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I have been thinking exactly that - that I will be playing a ‘tweener between a 4 and a 5 but what they have told me is that they see me guarding all the positions 1 through 5 and that is going to be a key to me playing my Freshman year - how well I defend and how much weight I put on.

VUSports:  It is interesting now with Omari Spellman sitting out this year that you kind of have an “old-school” front-line coming in together with Spellman, yourself and Samuels - do you see your games meshing well on the floor from what you have seen of their games so far.

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I can see us meshing.  Omari is not as fast as me defensively so I can help him there ... whereas Omari is more skilled than me offensively so we can kind of piggy-back off each other that way and I feel as though with him creating for himself in the post, and all of that stuff, that I can play off of him.

VUSports: Is there a message you would like to pass on to ‘Nova Nation or anything else about your upcoming High School season that you would like to share?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: We are having our own kind of Hoops Mania / Midnight Madness on November 19th at Neumann and thats going to be something crazy.  And also that I am coming and I am coming to change it up a little - pick it up!

VUSports: What time is your event?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I believe it is starting at 8:00 or 8:30.  We are going to have a scrimmage, a dunk contest, I think somebody dancing but I don’t know, and Quade is committing that day too!
