Leading Candidates for All-Big East

With the season nearly two-thirds gone, VUSports looks at the front-runners for end of season, All-Big East honors ...

Back in October at Big East Media Day, the Big East Pre-Season Coaches Polls were revealed.  The Big East Coaches chose the following Pre-Season All-League teams:

All Big East Honors

Josh Hart (Villanova) - Preseason BE POY

Shamorie Ponds (St. John's) - Preseason BE ROY

BE 1st Team:

Kelan Martin (Butler)

Maurice Watson Jr. (Creighton) - Season-Ending Injury

Kris Jenkins (Villanova)

Trevon Bluiett (Xavier)

Edmund Sumner (Xavier) - Season-Ending Injury

BE 2nd Team

Billy Garrett Jr (DePaul)

Isaac Copeland (Georgetown) - Transfer

Luke Fischer (Marquette)

Khadeen Carrington (Seton Hall)

Angel Delgado (Seton Hall)

Sadly, two first-team, all-league candidates suffered season-ending injuries when it appeared they were on track to meet the coaches pre-season expectations.  These injuries not only tightened up the competition in the league standings but also opened up opportunities for other players to step into contention for All-Big East honors.

With nearly two-thirds of the league schedule complete, here are the projected front-runners for selection for the post-season awards:

All Big East

Josh Hart (Villanova) - BE POY

Shamorie Ponds (St. John's) & Justin Patton (Creighton) - Co-BE ROY

BE 1st Team:

Kelan Martin (Butler)

Trevon Bluiett (Xavier)

Jalen Brunson (Villanova)

Angel Delgado (Seton Hall)

Marcus Foster (Creighton)

BE 2nd Team

Rodney Bullock (Providence)

Luke Fischer (Marquette)

Khadeen Carrington (Seton Hall)

Rodney Pryor (Georgetown)

Andrew Chrabascz (Butler)

Others in the mix down the stretch include Justin Patton (Creighton), J.P. Macura (Xavier), Eli Cain (DePaul), Mikal Bridges (Villanova), Kris Jenkins (Villanova)  and Shamorie Ponds (St. John’s).
