Villanova Athletic Director, Mark Jackson released the following today to formally announce the renovation of the 31-year old Pavilion with a budget of $60M:
Dear Supporter of Villanova Athletics:
I am excited to share that earlier today, the Villanova University Board of Trustees formally approved a comprehensive renovation plan for the 31-year-old Pavilion. The significant $60 million renovation, which will be funded entirely by donor support, will transform the existing Pavilion—creating a high-quality, game-day experience for Villanova students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans. The renovated arena will provide an atmosphere befitting our elite men’s and women’s basketball programs and will honor the storied history of Villanova Basketball. The renovation of the Pavilion is scheduled to begin in June 2017. Upon its reopening, the arena will officially be named the Finneran Pavilion.
As valued season ticket holders and passionate supporters of Villanova Athletics, I know that this project is a long time in the making for many of you and you are eager to learn all the details. While the Board of Trustees approval is a major step in the realization of the project, there are still several elements yet to be finalized, including season ticketing options and the final design. We have brought on a number of industry experts to assist with the planning, and I can assure you that a tremendous amount of time, energy and resources are being devoted to this project.
We have launched a dedicated website—FinneranPavilion.com—for you to preview the renovation plans and stay well-informed throughout this process. The website currently includes an overview of the project, a conceptual rendering, the locations of the majority of men’s and women’s basketball home games for the 2017-18 season, and a handful of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the project. We will update FinneranPavilion.com in the next several weeks as details are finalized. Individuals can sign up on the site to be Finneran Pavilion Insiders. Insiders will receive project updates, the latest renderings and access to any available seating options. Season ticket holders and Villanova Athletic Fund (VAF) donors are already considered Finneran Pavilion Insiders and will automatically receive this information.
This is a historic and exciting day for the University and for Villanova Athletics. The Pavilion renovation is critical for ensuring the continued success of Villanova Athletics and the Board of Trustees’ approval is a significant milestone in the process. The new Finneran Pavilion will provide an even stronger home-court advantage, enhance our ability to recruit and train the nation’s best and brightest student-athletes, help support all of our 24 varsity programs, and deliver a first-class, game-day atmosphere for the best fans in college sports. This is truly a community effort that will benefit generations of Villanova fans.
As the Finneran Pavilion renovation plans continue to develop, we look forward to working with you individually and completing this process in a way that is inclusive of our loyal fans. In the meantime, I know that you will continue to support and honor our teams as they play their final home games in the current Pavilion and prepare for another exciting March.
As always, thank you for your support. This is truly a great moment for Villanova, our teams, our student-athletes and all of you.
Director of Athletics
Villanova President, Father Peter Donohue sent the following:
Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,
Today, the Villanova University Board of Trustees approved a plan to renovate the 31-year-old Pavilion. This significant renovation will be funded entirely by donor support and modernize and enhance the existing Pavilion. Construction on the Pavilion is scheduled to begin shortly after Villanova’s 2017 Commencement Weekend.
While the Pavilion is most well-known as the home of our men’s and women’s basketball teams, it is also the center for many of our University-wide events. The numerous programs and events that are ordinarily held in the Pavilion will be temporarily relocated during the renovation. While this will require some creative planning for the next year or so—when complete—the Finneran Pavilion will create a best-in-class atmosphere to better support these various campus-wide activities moving forward.
I also wanted to share the email below that Mark Jackson, Director of Athletics, sent to athletic constituents regarding the renovation. It contains additional information about the plans, including a website—FinneranPavilion.com—that will be updated with project details as they are approved. I will also continue to share updates with you as they are finalized in the coming weeks.
This is more wonderful news for our community, and I look forward to welcoming you to the Finneran Pavilion when it reopens next year.
Fr. Peter Donohue, OSA
