Checking In With Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree

Leader Johnson spoke recently with Villanova commit, Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree and now shares his interview with VUSports.com ...

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree is a 4-star power forward who is ranked 2nd among centers in the state of Pennsylvania by Scout.com, 14th among power forwards and the 72nd best player in the overall nationally.  He hails from Philadelphia - a city which has produced a long line of legendary professional basketball players and local legends.  Cosby-Roundtree is athletic with a developing all-around game.  He is a defensive monster with a quick first step.

Leader Johnson: Whats up?  How has high school ball been and how is Neumann-Goretti?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: It's been good.  We finished out the season strong.

Leader Johnson: What made you choose Villanova?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: They had a family vibe about them. They made me feel like I would be at home away from home. I felt extremely comfortable with the coaches and it felt like the right move for me.

Leader Johnson: Your class includes 4-star SF Jermaine Samuels and 3 star PG Collin Gillespie.  Are you all close - do you keep in contact?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I see Collin more than Jermaine because me and Collin play each other or at the same facilities. But I text them both occasionally.

Leader Johnson: Who is your favorite NBA player and who do you model your game after in the NBA?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I personally like LaMarcus Aldridge and I want my game to be more complete like his. Everyone says I'm more of the KG type though.

Leader Johnson: Last year was crazy for Villanova basketball where were you at when Kris Jenkins hit the shot how did you feel?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I was sitting at home watching the game and after Paige hit the double pump 3, I was surprised. But as soon as I seen the play for Kris set up I called it.

Leader Johnson: The type of game you play impacts both sides of the floor.  What type of presence do you bring to this team? You with Omari coming next year you give Villanova a defensive presence in the middle they haven't had, perhaps since Jason Lawson.

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I feel as though my defensive presence will be my bread and butter to earning minutes so I will focus on that. Being able to guard all positions.

Leader Johnson: Tell me about how you came up and how your mom and dad and the rest of your family influenced your life?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I grew up in a single parent household. My father was murdered when I was 6. I lived with my mom and little brother until 5 years ago when my twin little brother and sister were born. My family is the reason why I play. I play not only to lead them but to be able to eventually take care of them in the long run.

Leader Johnson: Whats was your toughest game this year and what was your best game this year - what were your numbers?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: The toughest game this year was against Wheeler.  They whooped us.  My best game I would say would be between Carroll or St. Joes Prep I had 24 points and 22 boards against Carroll and 27 points 14 rebounds and 10 blocks against St Joes Prep.

Leader Johnson: Any player out there you have your best battles with?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I don't really have a player I would consider that I have a personal battle with. Just playing against Imhotep Charter against my AAU teammate Daron Russell is always fun.

Leader Johnson: Besides Quade Green what other players on Neumann Goretti can people be on the look out for.

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: All of them. [laughing]  I believe all of the younger fellas on our team are destined to do big things.

Leader Johnson: How long have you been playing basketball?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I have been playing officiated basketball for 4 years.

Leader Johnson: What do you like the most about Jay Wright?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: I like the authenticity he displays with people. He is very down to earth and honest so I know he has the best intentions for me and won't let me settle for anything less than my best.

Leader Johnson: what do you look to accomplish next year?

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: Just to come in and do everything that I'm asked and give them everything I can.

Leader Johnson: It was good talking to you ...

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree: Thank you I appreciate the opportunity.
