Black Discusses His Top 5, Decision Date, and More

Tarik Black discusses his top-five, his planned decision date, and more at Nike's: The Opening.

Florham Park, N.J. – Tarik Black, a 2017 wide-receiver out of Cheshire, Connecticut, is ranked as the top wide-receiver in his state and the top wide-receiver in the east.

The Cheshire Academy product has reach over 30 offers so far, but he hasn’t let it get to his head.

“I’m just completely embracing it,” Black said. “I’m just working hard every day. Keeping my body right, keeping my mind right, things like that.

Black has a top-five of Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, and UCLA. However, his top-five is something that could change if more offers come his way. Black narrowed his list down to that five through trips to the campuses.

“I’ve visited all five schools,” Black said. “I’m looking for a great coaching staff, great academics, family atmosphere. A place where I can fit in.”

Black doesn’t have any immediate plans to visit those schools again, but he does want to make another trip out to the west coast before he makes a decision.

“I don’t know when I’m going to decide,” Black said. “Hopefully before the season I’m going to do a silent commit, and announce at the Under-Armour All-American game. That’d be ideal.”

Even though he has a timetable to make a decision, he does have some additional schools he’d like to see and get an offer.

“Clemson would be an offer I definitely would like,” Black said, “but schools that I’d like to visit outside of my top-five, that I didn’t get a chance to see, is probably Georgia, Nebraska, Miami. If I get to visit those schools, maybe they could contend with the top-five.”

Another school that has been pursuing Black is Virginia Tech.

“Virginia Tech, they’ve got the new coaching staff from Memphis,” Black said. “I believe what they did last year with Memphis was unbelievable. I can definitely see myself fitting into their offense at Virginia Tech, if they were to take the Memphis offense and put it towards the Virginia Tech program.”

Black currently has no plans to visit Blacksburg.
