You would be hard-pressed to find a more productive defensive player in the state of Virginia over the past four years than Rayshard Ashby.
The 6-foot, 215-pound Ashby is a four-year starter for one of the top programs in the state and a two-time state champion.
Ashby, who committed to Virginia Tech in March, is not the biggest prospect, but he is a natural linebacker. He has added muscle and looks quicker than in the past.
The L.C. Bird standout is extremely physical and loves contact and it shows in every aspect of his game. Whether he is taking on a blocker, making a tackle or dropping into coverage, Ashby is always aggressive.
He is a good athlete who runs well. Ashby plays fast, but under control. He is best when moving downhill, but can also play sideline to sideline when needed. Ashby also takes good pursuit angles and tackles extremely well.
Ashby will compete from day one in Blacksburg and likely be a multi-year starter for the Hokies.
