South's No. 12 QB and Virginia Tech commit Hendon Hooker shows poise, accuracy and athleticism

Top-ranked N.C. quarterback Hendon Hooker shows why he is one of the premier signal-callers in the South in his early senior highlights.

Hendon Hooker had a huge junior season and then committed to Virginia Tech in March.

The 6-foot-4, 198-pound quarterback was already a major prospect, but when watching his senior film, you can tell he has improved significantly over the past several months.

First, Hooker is a prospect with a lot of natural ability. Although he is a dual-threat quarterback, he has really progressed when it comes to playing in the pocket. He shows good poise and does a great job going through his progressions. He also has a strong arm and can make all the throws.

On top of being effective from the pocket, Hooker also throws very well on the run. Regardless, he is extremely accurate and throws a very catchable ball. Then if the play does break down, the Dudley standout is a good athlete and can run well.

Although he would  benefit from a redshirt season next fall in Blacksburg, Hooker has a lot of talent and will likely push for playing time immediately. Ultimately, he has a chance to be a big-time quarterback at Virginia Tech.

Through six games this season, Hooker has led Dudley to a 6-0 record. He has thrown for 1,100 yards, 12 touchdowns and only one interception, while completing 65 percent of his passes. He has also rushed 51 times for 445 yards and nine more scores.
