With more than half of his senior campaign already in the books, cornerback Ameer Speed is in the midst of constructing his official visit plans with National Signing Day starting to creep up on prospects all across the country.
For Speed, a hot commodity on the recruiting scene that's tagged as Scout's 15th-ranked cornerback in the South, stop number one will be Michigan State for when Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines come to town on the weekend of Oct. 29.
"I've been talking to the coaches for a while and heard good things, so I want to get up there to check it out and see what it's all about," Speed said when asked about the Spartans.
"(They said) just know that teams need corners and how they think they could use me here and there. I just have to come in and perform, and be perfect with my craft."
Speed continues to gel with Justin Fuente's staff at Virginia Tech, and has already journeyed up to the Hokies' campus on his own dime as well. There aren't too many unanswered questions on the football side of things, so diving into the academics and getting a better taste of campus life will be on the to do list next time around.
Dec. 9 is when the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Speed will travel up to Blacksburg for his weekend stay with the Hokies.
"I love my relationship with the coaches, and how they keep up and stay in touch," Speed said. "Also, I enjoyed my time when I was there. I just see a bright future in the program.
"I'm really looking forward to getting there. I want to see more of the campus and talk more on the education side."
There's another suitor representing the ACC that's currently on Speed's official visit radar.
"I'm doing North Carolina in January," Speed said. "I'm not sure about the other two."
As always, stay tuned to Scout.
