Virginia Tech jumps in College Football Playoff rankings

The second College Football Playoff rankings of the season were released Tuesday night. And the Hokies made a big jump.

In the initial rankings release of the College Football Playoff rankings last week, Virginia Tech was ranked No. 19. Saturday, the Hokies got a win, but it wasn't an overly impressive one.

They struggled on offense, but got a blocked field goal return for a touchdown in a 24-21 victory over Duke. Still, that was enough to make a jump in the second release of the rankings.

On Tuesday night, Virginia Tech was rewarded by jumping five spots. The Hokies are now No. 14, third in the ACC, behind No. 2 Clemson and No. 6 Louisville. But if they close out the regular season with wins over Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Virginia, they'll get a shot at the Tigers in the ACC Championship, where a win could put them in the College Football Playoff.
