DeBose, who will make his commitment Friday, enjoyed his time in Blacksburg.
"The visit was good," said the 6-foot-3, 225-pound DeBose, who is also considering Illinois, Missouri and Pittsburgh. "My parents and I really enjoyed it. I was able to see (defensive line) coach (Charley) Wiles' house and coach (Justin) Fuente's house. I was also able to see the campus and learn about the engineering program. I even talked to the professors.
"One of my favorite parts of the trip was visiting coach Fuente's house, though. We played games, laughed and talked with the coaches. It was great."
Did the visit help the Hokies?
"Yes, it did," DeBose said. "I was able to see Blacksburg. And I was able to sit down with coach Wiles and (defensive coordinator) coach (Bud) Foster and talk to them. I was also able to talk to the players and see what a normal day in Blacksburg is like."
While on the visit, he spent the most time with Wiles and (tight ends) coach (James) Shibest.
"I liked how they're easy to talk to and they both have a good sense of humor," DeBose said. "They're always laughing and joking around.
"They also told me Virginia Tech is a special place. They said there are a lot of opportunities there waiting on me."
DeBose also spoke with Fuente.
"I was able to spend a decent amount of time with him and our conversations went well," DeBose said. "It meant a lot because it let me know that I was a need more than a want for them.
"He told me that I'm a top priority and that they really want me at Virginia Tech because they can see me doing great things. He said they're going to compete for a national championship soon and that I'm an added piece to the puzzle to make it happen."
He will make his announcement Friday at 4 p.m.
