Coach Buzz Williams after Hokies' 71-48 loss at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia Tech struggled mightily in a few areas, including on the glass, which led to plenty of second chances for Virginia in its 71-48 rout of the Hokies. Coach Buzz Williams spoke on it afterward.

There was plenty of talk about a number of areas with Virginia, ranked No. 9 in this week's Associated Press poll. The Cavaliers have a suffocating defense and slow the pace down of most fast-paced teams, Virginia Tech included.

And while both of those proved true Wednesday night, it was the Cavaliers' work on the glass that might have been one of the most key elements of their win. Virginia held a commanding 37-22 rebounding edge, but most notably 11 rebounds offensively.

"It started bad and it stayed bad, relative to keeping them off the offensive glass," coach Buzz Williams said. "They are not going to give up many points in transition because most of their guys get back, so we are giving up offensive rebounds when in essence at the time we have the numbers. We did a really poor job in that regard."
