Ben Smiley continues to attract attention from multiple college coaching staffs.
His last visit was to Virginia Tech.
"The visit went great," said the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Smiley. "We toured the campus and were able to see everything. I was really impressed with their academic programs, especially the engineering program, which is one of the best in the country and what I want to study. I also really enjoyed watching film with (defensive line) coach (Charley) Wiles. I'm going back again for a camp this summer.
"(Running backs) coach (Zohn) Burden is recruiting me and I like him a lot. He's always honest and Virginia Tech is recruiting me hardest. That means a lot and I think they could be first to offer. He's told me to keep working hard and that recruiting is process, so don't rush anything."
The Indian River standout's next trip could be North Carolina
"I'm definitely interested in them," Smiley said. "It will be my first time visiting, so I also want to learn more about the program, and meet all the coaches. I also want to see what the environment is like and see the campus.
"But when I go down there, I want to mainly focus on academics because that's the most important thing for me. If football doesn't work out, I still want to be able to do something I enjoy"
Smiley also hopes to visit Clemson in the spring.
