Vinson's Season Over, Working on Recruiting

Friday's loss to rival Hampton (Va.) knocked Hampton (Va.) Pheobus out of the playoffs and ended star athlete Brent Vinson's senior season. With the extra time now on his hands, Vinson figures to shift his concentration to his recruitment.

"I'm going to start taking my [official] visits now, our season is over with," said Vinson. "Right now my next visit is probably going to be Florida. I don't have anything setup, but the Florida coach is coming to my school tomorrow [Monday]."

Vinson, a 6-foot-2 180-pound wide out, also plans to take official visits to Virginia and Georgia. However, he is looking to leave out a trip to Virginia Tech, the school he has been favoring since the beginning of his recruitment.

"I talked to Coach [Jim] Cavanaugh and he said if I don't want to take a visit there I don't have to," said Vinson.

Regardless, the Hokies still remain atop Vinson's list of favorite schools.

"Virginia Tech's still my leader," said Vinson. "It's a school close to home, I'll be able to play close to home. Also I know a lot of people that go to Tech, so I'll be comfortable moving around."

In the next few months, Vinson hopes to make his final decision.

"Should be soon," said Vinson. "I'll probably just take a couple of visits. After I take these visits I'm going to go ahead and make a decision."

During Friday's game, Vinson was carted off the field with a hip injury. Vinson maintains that his hip is fine besides soreness in the muscles surrounding the hip.

Pheobus ends the 2005 campaign with an 11-1 record as Vinson takes home First Team All-District honors at defensive back, wide out, kick returner, and punt returner.
