Minnesota CB Setting Va. Tech Trip

Minnetonka (Minn.) High cornerback James Farrow recently narrowed his list of suitors to four, and Virginia Tech made the list despite his never visiting the campus. However, the 6-foot, 170-pound Farrow is about to change that. He is scheduling an unofficial visit to the school, and he told VTInsider.com about it, and why the Hokies are in his last four.

Of James Farrow's final four schools, he already visited three of them, likes the campus and is comfortable with the coaching staff.

So, why did Virginia Tech make the cut despite offering the Minnetonka (Minn.) High cornerback less than three weeks ago, and despite him never being the Blacksburg, Va.

"I did a lot of research and put a list together of things I was looking for in a school," Farrow told VTInsider.com. "I made a checklist of the schools that met most of the requirements, and that is basically how I got it down to four."

Farrow also took the opinions and knowledge he learned from folks not affiliated with any of the schools.

"To be honest, I called around and asked people what they think about my four schools," he said. "I've built up relationships with different reporters and analysts, and asked them what they thought. I've never heard anything bad about Tech. There's been no one to say anything bad about Tech."

Joining the Hokies in the final four are Wisconsin, Michigan State and West Virginia. Although the 6-foot, 170-pound Farrow doesn't hold an offer from West Virginia or Wisconsin, the Badgers could be sending one his way soon.

"I talked to the coaches, and they're on vacation now," Farrow said. "But I'm hoping to get the official offer in the next week or so. That will be big for me."

Having not traveled to Virginia Tech could put the Hokies behind in the process, but that will only be the case for a few more weeks.

Because of a break in the schedule, Farrow plans on making his first trip to the campus before Aug. 14. The only holdup in the process is purchasing airline tickets and getting his parents' schedules synchronized so they can all make the journey.

"I'm planning to visit there in the next couple of weeks," Farrow said. "We have a two week dead period for our high school, so I'm hoping to visit then. I won't be missing anything."

Since being offered, Farrow said he has remained in close contact with Hokies defensive backfield coach Torrian Gray.

"I talk to coach Gray frequently," Farrow said. "I ask him a ton of questions. I have him doing as much research about Tech as I'm doing myself. I'm trying to be really thorough with the process and make sure I know everything there is to know about the school.

"I've done numerous accounts of looking up different things, like looking up the tenure of coach Beamer. It's just random stuff."
