A.J. Oliver is a name to know in the 2017 class. The Central (S.C.) D.W. Daniel HS shooting guard impressed the Virginia coaching staff while participating in Saturday's camp.
"I talked to [UVa assistant] Jason Williford and [UVa Head Coach] Tony Bennett,” he said. “They really want to recruit me as a player and as a person."
Oliver is no stranger to the Wahoos. The shooting guard is actually a double UVa leagcy. His mom, who is now the head coach of the Clemson women's basketball team, Audra Smith, and his father, Anthony Oliver both have connections to the basketball program.
"This is basically where I grew up," he said. "My mom coached here before, and both my dad and mom both played here. So it's a really big overwhelming experience to be here."
So it's safe to say an offer from the Cavaliers will be very welcomed.
"It would mean a lot," he said. "It will probably be the biggest offer of the year."
Oliver claims offers from a couple of schools including College of Charleston, FIU, South Carolina-Upstate, Wofford, Old Dominion and Clemson, with the Tigets being the last school to offer. Like UVa, his mother is connected with the program at Clemson.
"Clemson is upa nd coming school in the ACC, they are really trying to rebuild they program. They are really nice school."
Other schools showing interest include Richmond, Florida Gulf Coast and Wake Forest.
Oliver discusses the latest in his recruitmet and his time at UVa in the video above.
