During his freshman season, Quin Blanding stormed onto the college football season, picking up several honors. In his sophomore season, the Virginia safety continues to pick up accolades. Blanding was chosen as the ACC's defensive back of the week after his 15-tackle effort against Georgia Tech-which ties a career high. In the game he also helped secure the victory after breaking up a fourth-down pass with about a minute to go.
"This is a team award," stated Blanding.
The defensive back, who has also recorded the Wahoos only interception of the season, admits this year has been a little harder. Without All-American safety Anthony Harris by his side, Blanding had to become a more vocal leader in the secondary.
"I knew it was going to be tough," he said. "I knew I just had to take it on."
But after right games, Blanding is more at ease.
"I feel vey comfortable just going in each week and preparing hard with my team and just leading them with my other teammates and getting the job done."
The 'Hoos need to get the job done this weekend if they want to keep their Coastal hopes alive. The Cavaliers travel to Coral Gables to play Miami on Saturday. Although Virginia has had plenty of luck against the Canes, UVA has not won on the road since 2012.
"It's home field advantage for them and you know they're coming off a momentum win for them, Miami is. So you know we've got to put those all into factors but we've just got to go in there and play our game and you know just keep fighting."
Blanding discusses the game, how the 'Hoos can snap the 13-game losing streak on the road and more in the video above.
