UVA Soccer Earns 35th Straight NCAA Berth

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-- Virginia men's soccer will host Rider on Thursday at Klöckner Stadium, as the Wahoos earns its 35th straight NCAA tournament berth. UVA head coach George Gelnovatch talked about the brackets and more.

For the 35th straight time, the Virginia men's soccer team are headed to the NCAA tournament. The defending National Champions were chosen as part of the 48-team field on Monday, and will host Rider on Thursday. 

The advancing team would play at tenth seed Maryland on Sunday. 

Rider won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship, earning an automatic bid to its third NCAA tournament. The last time these two teams mets was in 1998, a Cavalier 3-0 win in the first round of the NCAA's. 

UVA's streak of NCAA tournament appearances is the longest in Division 1 men's soccer. This is the 37th time that the Cavaliers have made it to the big dance for soccer in program history. 

The match will kickoff at 7 P.M. at Klöckner Stadium on Thursday.
