The No. 5 Virginia men's basketball team continues to work through a tough non-conference schedule. The Cavaliers have played against two ranked opponents in recent weeks and continues to come out unscathed. On Tuesday, however, the 'Hoos have another test, California.
" [UVA Head] Coach [Tony] Bennett asked us before the season when he was making the schedule, and he asked us if we wanted to do this," said Virginia guard London Perrantes. "We all smiled and we were all just happy to have this opportunity to go out and play some good teams in the beginning of the year. It will help us down the road."
"Exciting stretch leading into ACC play," added UVA forward Anthony Gill. "It's really going to help us when we get into the ACC tournament and into the NCAA tournament when we are playing these really good teams in the non conference."
Tip off between Cal and UVA is set at 9:00 P.M. at the JPJ. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2/ESPN 3.
Behind Enemy Lines
Cal is coming into the game on a five game winning streak after bouncing back from losses to San Diego State and Richmond.
Cuonzo Martin is leading a very talented, young team that are currently 9-2 this season. Offensively the Golden Bears average 78 points per game, hitting 46.8 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range. Defensively, the visitors have given up just above 65 points per contest, with opponents hitting 37.5 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from outside the arc. Cal does do a great job defending the paint, however, ranking third nationally.
Key Players to Watch
Jaylen Brown is having quite the rookie season. The 6-foot-7 forward averages 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He has also been able to record double figures in all but two games for the Golde Bears.
Ivan Rabb is also one that Cavaliers will be keyed on. Rabb averages just under 13 points per game but leads the team in rebounds averaging 8.5.
This is the first ever meeting for these two teams.
