No. 5 UVA Blows Past Oakland

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-- The fifth ranked Virginia men's basketball team finished its non-conference schedule on a ten game winning streak, after beating Oakland 71-58.

Virginia men's basketball is heading into ACC play unbeaten in ten games. The fifth ranked Cavaliers beat Oakland 71-58 behind a great performance from Mike Tobey. Tobey recorded 16 points, one assist and seven rebounds the Cavs secure their tenth straight win. 

The 'Hoos were on the back foot early, esepcially after London Perrantes had to sit out after six minutes after picking up two quick fouls. The game featured six lead changes in the first half, but the Grizzlies had the advantage at the break after putting together a 7-0 run to end the half and put them ahead 29-28. 

The Cavaliers, however, did not wait long to put distance between the two teams in the second half. The Cavs started on a quick 10-2 run to go ahead by seven. After ending the first half shooting 33.3 percent, the Wahoos finished shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Virginia also turned it on defensively as well. UVA not only held Oakland to just two three pointers in the second half, after the Grizzies had six in the first, they also held the visitors to their lowest points this season. 

Along with Tobey, Anthony Gill,and Malcolm Brogdon all finished in double figures-Gill with a team-high 17 points and Brogdon with 12. 

UVA now starts confernce play on Saturday against Notre Dame.
