Victor Viramontes is taking a serious look at Virginia. UVA quarterbacks coach Jason Beck has an already established relationship with the three-star quarterback from Norco, California. So when Beck visited Viramontes on Thursday, the signal caller was happy to hear the Cavalier coach out.
"It was great," said Viramontes. "Me and coach Beck had a great relationship when he was at BYU, so we've been talking for a while. My sister is committed to BYU for softball, so we were talking for a while. I like how they are bringing their offensive scheme they ran at BYU there at Virginia."
The 6 foot, 215 pounder is now waiting to hear back from the coaches about an offer.
"They said they are taking a look at my transcripts," he said. "He [Beck] says it looks like I will be able to get in, but he has to make sure and get it official before offering me."
During the conversation with the Cavalier assistant, Viramontes learned a little about the program, but admits he would need to visit Charlottesville this month. Viramontes has already set up two officials: Utah this weekend and Cal on the 29th. Since he is busy on Jan. 22nd, he is working to find another time to visit the Cavs.
"Coach [Beck] was going to see if I can go during the week," he said. "I want to go on a visit so I can see how everything is up there."
Viramontes says he hopes to make his decision on National Signing Day.
"Academics is first because football does not last that long," he said. "It is short a period of time in your life. I want to be able to get a good degree and get a good job after. The other thing is getting coached up well and if the coaches can make the best athlete out of me."
