"It was nice," said Cross. "It was a little bit of a surprise that came just a day before my last high school game before my state championship game. It was pretty exciting and it's a great opportunity.
"It's a great feeling because you know that they wanted me to be their guy," he said. "They came out here and they found me and let me know that we want you. It's a good feeling."
The three-star quarterback from Allentown (Pa.) Parkland High decommitted from Boston College and was eager to learn more about UVa.
"I knew a little but not a lot," said the signal caller. "I just knew about the school itself and that is what a good school."
Cross will have the opportunity to see what the Cavaliers have to offer when he officially visits Charlottesville this weekend.
"[Looking forward to] just being able to go down there and see the campus for the first time, see whats down there and see what the have," he said. "For the most part I want to see the school itself, the community around, see the surrounding area and see whats there - how it is and how it functions and basically get a feel for everything."
The dual-threat quarterback knows one thing, he knows he could fit Bronco Mendenhall's offensive system.
"They run a spread offense," he said. "For a spread offense you need a quarterback that can run and throw effectively and thats basically what we talked about. [I believe I can fit that system because] thats what I ran throughout my whole high school career."
So could a commitment be on the cards this weekend?
"If everything checks out I don't see why not," he admitted. "It's a great opportunity so we will see when we get there."
One things for sure, the UVA pledges have already made sure he feels at home by adding him to their group message.
"These guys, yeah they are the best at it [recruiting]," joked Cross.
