“It's very exciting, you know, it’s a great opportunity for me, to move on to the next step of my life," said the three-star quarterback. "It’s a great place academically, also on the football side of things they have a great staff there. [UVA Head] Coach [Bronco] Mendenhall, the rest there, they are really good people."
The Keystone state playmaker made the decision after officially visiting the Cavaliers this weekend.
"I got to see campus, all of it," said Cross. "We got to view the locker rooms. The main thing I got to do was eat, we ate of ton. I must have gained 15 pounds. We, literally, ate every three hours. It was ridiculous, I was dying, I could barely breath how full I was.
"I’ve never eaten so much food in my life," Cross joked.
Although Cross saw a complex menu option on his visit, Mendenhall and his coaching staff had a pretty simple message for the visitors.
"They came to UVA to turn the program around and win games," said Cross. "They have a pretty solid system. They’re whole idea was just letting us know that it's more than just football. They say football takes care of itself, it's more about getting an education, really. And I’ve been able to become a better person through football and that’s really what their message was to us."
During his time on Grounds, Cross was hosted by fellow Pennsylvania native, Matt Johns.
"He was a really good guy, really sincere. He was nice, he wasn’t one of those, you would think, stuck up guys, like certain quarterbacks at a huge university. He was really laid back and easy to talk to. It was nice having him."
However, there is one point he and Johns don't see eye to eye on.
"Ah man, I’m not going to agree with the whole 'Philadelphia tough' thing…”
He basically said you have to work hard at school because it’s a really good school. There a lot of different paths you can take while you are down here. For the most part that was his message to me is that its fun and all, its really fun, it’s a great place, but you have got to work hard.-->
