Hubert A Top Target

The Wake Forest coaching staff would like to add a few more big men to their 2011 class and Desmond Hubert looks like he is at the top of their wish list. The New Egypt High School standout recently visited Wake and spoke with DeaconSports about his trip as well as where he is with the recruiting process.

Long, athletic, and coachable big men are very hard to find but Desmond Hubert is one exception to that rule. After a bit of an "inconsistent" AAU season, Hubert is now focused on the upcoming season at New Egypt High School as well as his recruitment.

"I have high expectations for the upcoming season," says Hubert. "The goal is to win a state championship as well as for me and my teammates to go out every game and play hard."

Hubert has a top 5 of Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, Villanova, and Princeton. He recently visited Wake Forest and had great things to say about Jeff Bzdelik's program.

"The visit to Wake was great. I had a lot of fun. The coaches and players on the team made me feel like I was already part of the family. The staff and players were very welcoming. I also like the small class sizes and location. It reminds me a lot of the high school I am at now."

New Egypt Head Coach Jay Corby also had great things to say about his talented big man. "Desmond is a coach's dream," said Corby. "He is very coachable. He has only been playing basketball for five years and I think he is just scratching the surface of what type of player he can be. He is a terrific shot blocker and averaged almost a double double for us last season."

Corby also talked about the recruiting process. "It has been going on for two and a half years now. We have visited great schools like Duke, Wake Forest, N.C. State and others. It has been nice to meet all these great college coaches and go through the recruiting process but I think it's getting about time to make a decision."

Hubert mentioned he would visit Maryland this weekend and hopes to make a decision "soon" and that academics and his relationship with players and coaches will be a big factor in his decision.
