Deacon Coaches After Dudley Safety

Dudley High School in Greensboro is has three top football prospects in the high school class of 2004. One of those prospects is Martel Thatch, a 6-foot-2, 180 pounder, a player Wake Forest is very interested in early in the recruiting process.

"Virginia thinks that he is the prototypical safety, and they are all over him," says Dudley head coach Victor Floyd, and Martel Thatch agrees.

"There is no doubt. When I went up there, the coaches were really down to earth, and how could you not like the campus," the 6-foot-2, 180 pounder admits. "It is all perfect."

Thatch could commit right now according to Floyd. "He would do it if I would let him. I want him to take a look around to make sure it is the right decision, but he could commit early."

Along with an offer from Virginia, Thatch also has an offer on the table from North Carolina in addition to interest from Wake Forest, NC State, Clemson, and many other schools.

Last season, Martel finished the season with 91 tackles, 9 interceptions returning three for touchdowns en route to All-Conference honors.
