Peach State prospect with double-digit offers

Derious Bennett is a defensive tackle with solid lower body strength and impressive power. With more than 10 scholarship offers from across the ACC and SEC, the Carver High School senior from Columbus, Ga., is actively seeking more.

"I have offers from Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia State, Arkansas State, UAB, Arkansas, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Houston, Marshall and Tennessee," said the 6-1, 285-pound athlete.

"I was most excited about getting the offers fom Wake Forest, Southern Miss, Arkansas and Tennessee."

Bennett described the offer which surprised him the most.

"Wake Forest," he said. "They offered me at their weekend camp in early June. I really liked Coach Grobe and Coach Mac.

"I've visited every school that's offered me except for Southern Miss, and I'm supposed to be going back to Wake Forest on the 16th for an unofficial visit," he added.

Bennett is working out Monday through Thursday from 9:00-12:00 doing conditioning and weights, and will focus on performance for his senior season.

"I'm working on more technique," he said. "College ball takes a lot more than high school ball, so that's the stuff that'll make me better."

As for schools he'd like to hear from Bennett explained, "I haven't heard from any big SEC schools, so I'm waiting for some to come around. I'll make my decision between the middle of the season and signing day."
