Robert Conyers scheduling official visits
"I've set up two in December," said Robert Conyers. "I'm going to Duke on the 9th and Illinois on the 16th. The only other one I've taken was to USF the weekend they played Texas-El Paso. I'm also hearing from some other schools, but I've been really busy focusing on football."
Conyers, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle, holds more than 20 scholarship offers and sports a 3.5 GPA. He believes the official visits will tell the tale on where he should choose to go.
"I'm trying to decide on my where to take my other visits," said Conyers. "Wake Forest calls me every once in awhile to check in. I've been talking to Michigan State. The other school I'm hearing from the most has been FIU here in Miami. I'll probably have my mind made up sometime in January.
"What's going to help me decide is how the program is doing. Are they up right now or have they been kind of down. When I take my official I want to see what the players are like and the coaches, especially my position coach. The recruiting coach and head coach may be really nice, but I'll be spending most of my time with the offensive line coach."
The Bulldogs were 8-0 last season before losing by 35 to South Dade and lost to Southridge by 36 in the first round of the playoffs. They won the District 15-8A, but were hoping for more this year with many starters back.
There has to be a sense of déjà vu for Braddock with consecutive losses to Coral Reef, 49-0 and 35-0, to end their season. Still, Conyers looked at the positives the team made.
"Out offensive line did well," said Conyers. "We ran a hybrid Wing T using shotgun and the I formations. We were primarily a run team, but I think we were underrated at pass pro. We were short on players this year, so I went both ways. It got me in great condition. It also helped me on offense by staying low at pad level. I think on defense I made 20 plus tackles and had four sacks."
Conyers began on defense as a sophomore as a defensive lineman/linebacker. They moved him to the offensive line as a junior where he blossomed into a highly regarded Division 1 prospect. He'll have one more chance to showcase his talent this year. Conyers was selected to play in the Nike South Florida All-Star Game held at Miami's Nathaniel Traz Powell Stadium on December 23rd.
