Deacon Spotlight: Desmond Floyd

Desmond Floyd is closing out his first year as a Demon Deacon. Weighing in at 6-5, 235 pounds, the freshman defensive end adds to a young but promising group of Deacs.

"Spring ball is going good," Floyd said. "It's only been a couple of practices. It's hard to tell what will happen, but it's good. The team is doing pretty well right now. Everybody is coming together and working for the same thing - the ACC Championship."

The Jonesville, SC native reflected on how he came across Wake Forest.

"I had a friend who was going to Wake, and I came on a visit and really liked the campus," he said. "That's what opened me up to Wake. What I really liked was the small school, the overall environment and the coaching staff."

Floyd was also considering Duke, NC State and Georgia Tech during his own recruitment before choosing the Deacs.

"The relationships with the coaches here are how they were for me in high school," he said. We're really close."

With ample amount of time left to grow with the group, the defensive end has high hopes for both himself and the team.

"It's been hard to adjust to the speed of the game and learning a lot more plays than we did in high school," he explained. "I'll keep doing whatever I need to help the team win, and I'd like to see us competing in the ACC Championships in the next three years.

"Getting to know the team and seeing how everybody came together last year has been really memorable."

Additionally, Floyd touched on his tight relationship with the staff at Wake Forest.

"The relationships with the coaches here are how they were for me in high school. We're really close," he concluded.
