Neal updates recruitment

Wake Forest hasn't been linked to Lewis Neal as much as some other schools but the Deacs are in play. That's the word from the Wilson (NC) Hunt defensive end. He told DeaconSports in a recent interview that Wake Forest is very much a school he's considering.

"I've been talking to Coach (Jonathan) Himebauch from Wake Forest. I have trouble saying his name," he admitted with a laugh.

According to Neal, the education at Wake is a major in terms of why he's evaluating the Demon Deacons. "Academic-wise it's one of the top schools out there. It's a sleeper school. Some people say it's small but you can get a real good education there and still go pro. They've shown that," he said.

Neal has visited Wake Forest one time and that was for a junior day earlier this year. If the Deacs are to continue to be a player in this one they'll probably need to secure another visit soon. Neal plans on hitting up some of the other schools recruiting him in the near future and then wants to cut his list by the start of the summer.

With schools around the country offering, the in-state schools like Wake, UNC and NC State have to work hard to keep Neal close to home. "Well location doesn't really matter either way," he said. "I can stay in state or go out of state. That's not going into my decision."

Neal is rated three-stars and the No. 20 middle linebacker nationally but many schools are recruiting him as a defensive end.
