Catching-up with Covington

Anthony Covington is one of Wake Forest's top recruiting targets and it's easy to understand why. The three-star Charlotte (NC) Mallard Creek corner is one of the state's top prospects and there's good reason to believe the Demon Deacons are at the top of his list.

For starters Covington has visited Wake Forest six times, he told DeaconSports this week. That's usually a pretty good sign the interest level is high. He doesn't refute that conclusion either.

"They're definitely one of the very top schools on my list," Covington said. "Coach Galloway and I have a great relationship as well as me and a lot of their players. I get along well with all of them. Everything's going really well with Wake Forest. They're definitely keeping communication up. I've been there a lot and feel good about it."

Covington has been a big-time prospect for a while now but lately he's become even more of a hot commodity. He has picked up new offers from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Miami, Maryland, Georgia Tech and others recently.

"Some doors definitely opened up that had been closed," Covington said. "To be honest with you I had narrowed things down a little bit but now I don't know."

It's good news Covington is still high on the Deacs but the increased competition has clearly introduced uncertainty into the process.

What's coming up on the horizon? "I know I've planned something with the coach from Maryland and we're trying to figure out a date for me to go up there. I don't think we've nailed that down yet, though.

"I'm also planning on going to visit Duke within this month. Not this weekend but the following weekend."
