Deacs show interest in NC DB

Anthony Covington isn't the only Charlotte cornerback on Wake Forest's radar, apparently.

Jalen Latter, a 5-9, 163-pound corner from Charlotte (NC) Vance, told Deacon Sports this week that Wake Forest is recruiting him harder than anyone else. No offer has come yet but that level of interest is usually a sign that one could be on the way. Of course, the Deacs may be waiting to see what their other corner targets who already have offers decide to do. Latter remains optimistic.

"I talked to Wake Forest last week actually," Latter said. "Coach Lonnie Galloway came to the school. They seem real interested.

"I really like Wake Forest. I took a visit there sometime a while back and I really liked the campus and the coaches. They've probably shown more interest than anybody else."

Latter said the Deacs only contacted him recently so he hasn't had much time to build a relationship with the coaches. He appreciates all the interest they've shown and if an offer comes Wake would probably be in great shape.

Though he plays almost exclusively on offense in high school Wake Forest and others believe he's best suited to play cornerback in college.

"What position I play doesn't really matter," he said. "I just want to find the school that fits me best.

"Me and my parents both have to like it and I've got to have a good relationship with the coaches."

Duke and NC State are two other schools that have shown heavy interest.

Navy and Air Force recently offered scholarships but Latter hasn't visited either school so he can't pass judgment on the two service academies. Latter plans to wait until Signing Day to make his decision.
