Alfred Pullom discusses WFU offer
"I got my first offers from Wake Forest, Duke, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff all on the same day," said Alfred Pullom. "I'm definitely interested They have a great football program.
"Right now, I'm hearing the most from Wake Forest, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Houston. I talk to Coach Duffie and Coach Jackson. They said they thought I could play either safety or cornerback. They like my size, nose for the ball, tackling ability, and cover skills. Really, they said they liked my overall game."
Pullom, 6-foot-1, 187-pounds, started his prep career at Erwin High School in Birmingham, Ala. He moved to Harris County, Texas and became a starter at Cy-Woods this past season at safety. Although Winston-Salem is a long way from the Space City, Pullom says he's familiar with North Carolina and the football program.
"A big part of my decision is going to be how the school is education-wise," he said. "Wake Forest has great academics. I'd like to study Business or Marketing, so I'd like to look at their programs.
"I'm also going to look at how many juniors and seniors are on the team to see if I'll have an opportunity to play early. I've stayed up in North Carolina before, so I know it's a nice place to live."
Pullom was named Second Team All-District (Texas 5A Region III District 17) for his junior season for a 9-3 Wildcats team. He made three interceptions and one fumble recovery he took back 75 yards for a touchdown in the win against Cy-Ridge.
"I think I improved with more intelligent play," explained Pullom. "I keep getting better in coverage which allowed me to take some chances. This seasom I want to be a better leader for our team. We're got a lot of talent, so I think we can do nothing but progress. I'm going to do all I can to help us be successful."
Pullom played basketball and track after the football season. He competed in the 200, 400, 4X1 triple jump, and the long jump. He has a personal best of 51 flat in the 400 meter dash, his best event. He plans to make his college decision by the end of summer.
