Deacs offer 2014 athlete

Despite being a 2014 prospect, Vic Wharton isn't exactly a newcomer to the whole recruiting process. The Tennessee native added a WFU offer this recently and discussed that offer with DeaconSports.

Heading into last week the Nashville, Tennessee native had already picked up offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Cincinnati, so offers probably wouldn't normally get him as excited as they would a prospect getting his first.

Nonetheless Wharton was thrilled when he learned that Wake Forest had offered him.

"I just got that one a little while ago," Wharton exclaimed. "I was talking to coach Lobo, their offensive coordinator, and I didn't know it was going to come so soon. They had been talking to me and recruiting me for a while before that but I didn't know it would happen so far. They just went ahead and offered. I'm pretty excited."

While the 6-foot, 170-pound athlete, who could play either corner or receiver, is excited, he's not putting the cart before the horse. He even admitted that he needs to learn a lot more about Wake before he's ready to talk about the school as a favorite.

"They would probably be up there near the top but I need to visit them first," Wharton said. "I don't really know a lot about them yet. I just know it's a good program and school. I know they've been on the rise for a while."

Wharton said he recently scored a 24 on the ACT and he believes that score really helped him with the Wake Forest coaches.
