Deacs in Shelton's top five

Although they may have some work left to do to sway Sojoun Shelton to Wake Forest over heavy competition, the staff is in it to win it with the South Florida prospect. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound cornerback from Plantation High School recently listed the Demon Deacons in his top five after previously being committed to Florida State.

"They do a great job of developing their players," said Sojourn Shelton on his interest in Wake Forest. "Of course, the academics are outstanding. They play the best competition tough. Look at what they did last year with Florida State. They've had a few great seasons in the past ten years and put quite a few players in the League. They always have a strong defense and the coaches get the most out of their talent.

"Most of the communication I have [with Wake Forest] has been through my head coach. My recruiter is Coach Mac (Ray McCartney). I haven't been there yest but I'm planning on going there on one of my official visits."

Shelton has already set an official visit to Wisconsin, considered to be the front-runner, and also wants to make trips to UCF, Nebraska, Cincinnati, and Wake Forest. During the summer months, he competed at The Opening in Oregon and at Gridiron Kings in Orlando.

"The only campus visited was South Carolina," Sojourn said on his summer. "I want to make all five of my official visits and decide by late November because I'm going to be graduating in December. My plan is to enroll in January, learn the playbook, and get on the field as fast as possible. I want to talk to the coaches and see if they would be open to let somebody come in and compete right away for playing time as a true freshman."

The 2012 season will be Shelton's third as a starter for the Plantation Colonels. They'll begin their season with a game at Hallandale High School on August 30th. In college, Sojourn is looking to earn his degree in the area of Communications.
