Benjamin narrowing his focus

Jeremy Benjamin is starting to narrow his focus but recruiting isn't the only thing on his mind these days.

More important than football will be Benjamin's academic progress. Benjamin plans to re-take his SAT on September 8 so he won't be taking any official visits until after that test is behind him.

Lately the 6-2, 215-pound linebacker from Hollywood (FL) McArthur hasn't been visiting any schools. His most recent trip was to Florida International, a local school that has obviously impressed him.

"I went and really loved it up there. I got along with all the coaches. I'm really impressed with what they can become and do," he said.

"I'm going to take officials to FIU, West Virginia and Wake Forest. I'm still looking at some other schools like Tennessee and Texas A&M but that's all I can think of for now."

So what does Benjamin think of WVU and Wake? "I've got a good relationship with the West Virginia coaches. They've got a pretty good defense. They run the exact same defense we ran this past year so I think I would fit in good with that. I'm comfortable with that.

"I haven't looked into Wake as much but I've talked to pretty much all the coaches. I like those guys and they're recruiting pretty good. I think over the next two years or so they'll put a good team on the field."

Benjamin is the #35 middle linebacker in the country on Scout.com.
