Looney now favoring the Deacs

Just a short while back DeaconSports reported on defensive end James Looney, who was then considering a visit to Wake Forest along with a couple of other schools...

The 6'4, 260-pound lineman then told us that he was planning to visit Wake Forest, Minnesota and West Virginia. This week he reaffirmed that he will "definitely" visit Wake Forest while he will "probably visit" Minnesota and West Virginia.

"Wake Forest is probably at the top right now," he said. "I just like how it's not that big of a school. Their academic base is really good. I like the coaching staff and how I would have the ability to come in and start as a freshman. And I like that it's in the ACC because that's a big conference."

Looney said the Wake coaches have told him there is the opportunity for early playing time but nothing will be handed to him. That's okay with him. Looney has done his research and likes the depth chart situation in Winston-Salem.

Ray McCartney and Jonathan Himebauch are both in regular contact with the three-star lineman. While he's listed as a defensive end, Looney is being recruited as an offensive lineman.

"I really like Coach Himebauch. He's a really cool guy. He got good experience playing at USC and I think if I played under him and did what I need to do then I could probably play in the NFL."

Looney's officials haven't been set yet but he'll want to map out the details soon. He plans to make his decision sometime before December.
