Deacs evaluating Maurice

Wake Forest's need for defensive line depth has prompted Jim Grobe's coaching staff to ramp up their recruiting efforts on another Florida prospect

One of the beneficiaries is Kevin Maurice, a 6'3, 280-pound defensive tackle from Orlando, a preferred recruiting area for Grobe and the Deacs.

Maurice said Wake Forest hadn't shown much interest until just over a week ago when one of the coaches reached out to him over Facebook. Things have heated up since then.

"Coach Elrod and their defensive line coach came down today. I know that they're a good school academically and it would be a great opportunity for me," Maurice said. Maurice will visit Wake Forest on January 11th.

"(Elrod) said they're going to show my film at their next defensive meeting and then they'll call me." If the Deacons offer Maurice he admitted that they would rank very high on his list. UCLA also stopped by Freedom High School on Thursday.

"They watched my senior highlight tape and they're going to show it to their defensive coordinator as well," he said.

Maurice said he's not in any hurry to make a decision. He has taken an official visit to Boston College but hopes to visit schools like Wake and UCLA if they decide to offer as well.
