Success on the court during the summer is leading to a bevy of offers for Greenfield School (N.C.) guard Coby White.
While's CP3 U16 squad racked up wins at the Peach Jam, CP3 Live in Winston-Salem, and then the AAU Summer Championship in Las Vegas.
All the while, he was also catching the eye of numerous college coaches, grabbing late summer offers from Virginia, Providence and Iowa State. He'd already held offers from Wake Forest, Clemson and Tennessee.
What has coaches so excited about White? He can get to the rim and finish seemingly at will, but can also kill you from long distance. White has an explosive first step and exhibits great hands on both ends on the floor.
"It's going great,White said about his summer after a win in the CP3 event earlier this month. "A lot of basketball."
White has the ability to translate disruptive defense to quick offense, and he see that as one of his strengths.
"I'm pushing the ball and getting out on the fast break," he said. "I love defense, and I bring the energy."
It sounds like he will be called on to play point guard as a junior at Greenfield.
"I want to work on leading the team as a point guard," White said. "I need to be more vocal on the court and continue to work on my defense."
It's early in the process still for White, but he feels he knows what he's looking for at the next level.
"Best fit for me," he said. "I want to be comfortable around the coaching staff and the players."
Wake assistant coach Brett Ballard has been his primary recruiter at Wake.
"They say I can come in and be a dominant player," he said. "That I have a chance to help the program become big again."
