2018 LB prospect Payton Wilson visits the Deacs scrimmage

Orange High School junior linebacker Payton Wilson visited the Deacs Saturday after putting together a big performance on the field in his season-debut the night before.

Orange High School (N.C.) junior linebacker Payton Wilson tallied 12 tackles and ran for 105 yards in a 35-3 win Friday night over Person (N.C.).

Then he visited the Deacs for their scrimmage Saturday evening.

“It was pretty cool. They looked pretty good. I had fun and enjoyed meeting with the coaches,” Wilson said. “I have a good relationship with the coaches.”

The 6-foot-4, 225 2018 prospect plays linebacker and running back for the Orange this season.

“We have a pretty good team, and we’ve got a chance to make it pretty far into the playoffs if we focus,” he said.

He camped this summer at Wake, Duke, North Carolina State, South Carolina, UNC, and Appalachian State.

Wilson received an offer from the Wake coaching staff during the camp, and also has been offered by East Carolina, NC State and Appalachian State.

He said relationships with the coaches along with education are the two most important attributes he’s looking for in a college destination.

Tom Walter’s Wake Forest baseball program recruited Wilson’s brother, Bryse, who just graduated from Orange and signed a MLB deal with the Atlanta Braves. Payton became more familiar with Wake during Bryse’s recruitment.

“My brother was recruited for baseball, so I got to see some of the facilities then, but I think I’m going to schedule another visit soon to get a better look,” Payton said.
