Waydale Jones visited Wake during the second week of official visits and made his decision public shortly after returning home. He picked the Deacs over San Diego State, Boise State and Vanderbilt. He had a scheduled final-week trip to Vanderbilt, but canceled after committing. North Carolina came in late on Jones, but never pulled the trigger on an offer.
Jones: "I want to be a cardiologist, so having a great medical program and a great academic school was tops on my list. After my visit, I had a gut feeling and I prayed on it. I felt like it was the right fit for me. The coaches, the players and the other recruits that were there treated me like family. That was my first time being at Wake Forest University, but they made me feel at home."
From Scout recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks: Waydale Jones is a South Texas sleeper who made his recruiting stock skyrocket with a monster senior season in Texas Class 4A. Jones possesses an outstanding frame with the potential to be a truly large outside receiver on the next level as he continues to add bulk to his 6-foot-4 body. Jones high-points the ball and wins matchups in traffic and the red zone. He has adequate long speed for a big, long-striding wideout. He can improve his overall quick-twitch athleticism, but Jones is an FBS-caliber receiver who could possibly be a Power Five-worthy prospect as well.
