Wilson (Florence, S.C.) High School safety Zion Keith celebrated his birthday Thursday in style — topping it off with a commitment to Wake Forest.
“Wake Forest recruited me early, they recruited me hard — I just love everything about them,” Keith said.
The 6-foot-1, 175 pound 3-star safety cited relationship, friendship and atmosphere as some of the main reasons for his commitment. He chose the Deacs over offers from Central Florida and South Carolina State. Keith was drawing interest from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Purdue and Virginia Tech.
“It was just the simple fact of my relationship with the coaches,” Keith said.
Keith said he talks often to Wake junior wide receiver Tabari Hines, who is also from the Florence area.
“It’s a great family atmosphere,” Keith said about Wake.
The Wake staff is looking at him at corner, but he’s open to playing wherever when he gets to Winston-Salem.
“They want me to play corner,” Keith said. “I’ll play anything on the defensive side.”
Keith said you can see the natural progression of the Wake Forest program.
“They’re coming up,” he said. “They’re working hard.”
What will Wake Forest fans see out of Keith when he gets to campus?
“They’re going to see an exciting player who’s going to make a lot of plays,” he said.
