Five On Top For Burks

Pulaski County fullback/linebacker Derrick Burks has no offers on the table so far, but has seen some heavy interest from colleges around the region. Burks spoke with TheInsiders this week about his recruitment...

"So far we're 1-1," Burks said of his team's season today. We lost to William Fleming the other day by three points. Fleming was good and we pushed them to the wire and had a chance to win but we just didn't do it. The first game we played Northside and we beat them 35-0."

In those two games, Burks notes that he did quite well. "Against Northside, I had 130 yards and one touchdown and about 10-11 tackles," he said. "I had 85-yards against Fleming and 7-8 tackles."

Meanwhile, on the recruiting front, Burks is hearing from several schools around the region. "I'm definitely hearing a lot from Wake Forest and Richmond and schools like that," he said. "Definitely Wake Forest the most. I've been down there twice, last year during football season and then basketball season and I'm going again in November to the Maryland game. I'm hearing from Virginia Tech and UVa, Tennesse and some others along with those."

Although Burks has no offers at this point, he feels that some may come before the end of the process thanks to his versatility. "Schools say I can play several positions," he said. "Wake doesn't really know. Then at the Tennessee camp they ran me at fullback. Virginia Tech had me at tailback, fullback, and outside linebacker at their camp."
