West Forsyth (Clemmons, N.C.) High School cornerback Jaquan McMillian is hearing from programs all across the country.
But the one the 2019 defensive back prospect hears most from is right down the road in Winston-Salem.
“They have been recruiting me hard,” McMillian said about Wake Forest. “I see them a lot.”
He’s recently been hearing from North Carolina, Tennessee and Duke, but his most recent visit was to a Wake spring practice.
“It was cool. They showed me all the new buildings, and what’s on the way,” McMillian said. “We talked a lot. I met more of the coaching staff and more of the players.”
“That new building is going to be all athletics. There’s a new weight room coming for football. It’s pretty exciting.”
McMillian holds offers from South Carolina, Louisville, Duke, UNC, Wake and Tennessee. He plans to visit North Carolina State, South Carolina, UT and UNC during the summer.
“I can play a variety of positions — slot, receiver, corner, safety,” he said about what colleges coaches like about his game. “The most thing I think they like is my man-to-man coverage. I grab picks and am also able to attack the run game.”
He said he looks to become more physical and keep receivers to the outside of their routes during his junior season at West Forsyth.
Judging by his own criteria, Wake could be just the right fit for McMillian.
“Education first,” he said. “I want to have that feeling that I’m at home at all times. I want to get real close to the players and coaching staff. Education is big. I want to go somewhere for business.”
