Even though his cellphone was set to vibrate, it was still difficult to talk to Buford (Buford, Georgia) High School wide receiver Isaiah Isaac.
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
His phone was blowing up, and for good reason.
Isaac had just announced his verbal commitment to play football at Wake Forest University.
“It’s great. I’ve been training for this and waiting for this moment my entire life,” Isaac said. “I’m excited.”
Isaac detailed what put Wake over the top, faced with other options such as Army, Temple and Toledo.
“The academics,” he said quickly. “That’s what I was looking for. I knew the football program was good, but it was the academics that put them over the top.
“I fell in love with the school. The academics are great and the coaches are fantastic. It’s a great atmosphere up there.”
Assistant coach Kevin Higgins, who is wide receivers coach, played an integral part in Isaac’s recruitment.
“They love my ball skills.” Isaac said. “They came to watch me practice, and say I will have a chance to earn playing time. I have great hands. I’m fast and get open well. I find open space.”
