Butler (NC) standout linebacker Brion Stokes has watched his stock soar over the past few months, and has enjoyed the benefits as a number of big time programs begin to pick up their recruiting efforts.
Right now I have offers from Duke and Eastern Kentucky, said Stokes. Ive talked to Virginia, South Carolina, and Wake Forest as well. Those are my top schools right now, along with Clemson.
After finishing his junior season with nearly 110 tackles, six sacks, and three interceptions from his middle linebacker slot, Stokes camped at Duke where he was clocked running a 4.37 forty in front of the Blue Devil coaches. He also made camping stops at Wake Forest, Virginia, and South Carolina.
The offered him as soon as that camp was over, said Butler head coach Mike Newsome. He also ran a 4.4 at the Shrine Bowl combine, so the times are legit.
While camping at Duke over the summer, Stokes says he was very impressed with the new facilites and the coaches.
I really liked their new building and I got to know Coach Sherrod pretty well. I really liked him, and I liked what they were trying to do on offense this year.
Why would a linebacker want to know about the offensive side of the ball?
The coaches talked to me about maybe switching to running back, as a possibility.
Despite their struggles over the past few years, Stokes isnt worried about Dukes ability to help him improve.
They are struggling, but they still have time to surprise some people.
To this point the 6-foot-1 205 pounder says hes not sure which schools will have a chance to host him on an official visit, but he did indicate that playing close to home would be something hed be in favor of.
