Smith Having Great Season

Pahokee standout quarterback/defensive back Alphonso Smith is having an excellent senior season. In leading his team to a 7-0 record this season, Smith has accounted for 1,017 yards passing, 521 rushing, and 20 total offensive touchdowns (16 pass and 4 rush), in addition to three scores on special teams.

"I'm probably going to be a corner or a slot receiver in college," Smith said. "It really doesn't matter to me. Whatever gets me on the field the fastest, I'll play it. Teams never throw my way now when I'm playing cornerback but I'm sure that'll change when I go to college."

Smith, who was considered a Pittsburgh commitment at one point, is now pretty open in the recruiting process.

"I don't have a favorite or anything like that," he said. "I have no idea what I'm going to end up doing. I still get a lot of calls and stuff like that. Virginia Tech, Iowa, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Florida State, those guys call me a lot and they have all offered. They want me to start setting up trips but I'm trying to wait till after the season to do all that."
