DeaconSports Athlete of the Week: Chris Barclay

Wake Forest Running Back runs for 159 first half yards in the Deacons 45-17 victory over Clemson.

This week's DeaconSports Athlete of the Week was a difficult decision. It was easy, however, to narrow down the decision to a Deacon football player due to the team's dominating performance over Clemson including a 45-0 lead at one point Saturday.

The difficulty was in narrowing it down to one player. Defensively, Eric King and Jyles Tucker scored played well and both scored touchdowns on an interception and fumble recovery respectively. Both must at least receive honorable mention.

It is difficult, however, to overlook the Deacs 321 rushing yards. Credit for this must not only be given to the Running Backs and Quarterback Cory Randolph who had 67 yards rushing himself, but also to the offensive line.

While the decision was difficult, Chris Barclay, with his career high 163 yards rushing was selected as the DeaconSports athlete of the week. Barclay scored two touchdowns in the process and led the Deacons to one of the most convincing wins since...well two weeks ago when he also rushed for 163 yards in defeating Duke. The most incredible statistic Barclay put up Saturday is that 159 of these yards came in the first half(all 163 yards against Duke were in the first half).
