Russell To Follow Brother To ACC?

After sharing the ball with 3 very talented seniors, Anderson Russell will have the backfield to himself for the most part at Marist next season. He has a brother in the ACC, but it looks like he wants to make a new path for himself.

Anderson Russell was a key component of Marist's State Championship run last season. He posted modest numbers in the War Eagles' option attack, because he had to share the ball with three very talented seniors in Sean McVay, Michael Ashkouti, and Chris Davis. With those three players gone, this could become Russell's team in 2004.

"He had 100 caries for 573 yards and 11 touchdowns last year," said Head Coach Alan Chadwick. "He also had six catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns. We're looking at certain things just to get him the ball next year and get him some more touches next season."

Russell's older brother Brandon plays at North Carolina, but Anderson looks like he will take the path less traveled.

"I went to some North Carolina games last season to see my brother," said Russell. "My dad played at Tennessee State too. I've been getting letters from teams like Auburn, Alabama, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Furman and Kent State. Right now my Top 5 is Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and Florida."

Russell also plays baseball in high school, but football is his ticket to the next level. An excellent student, Russell will have no trouble qualifying.
