"Well we want to win the state championship again, we won it last year," said Augustin. "But I also want to work on my defense this year, that's really what I want to work on - my defense."
While Augustin has been busy prepping for the season, a few head coaches have been in to check out his game. Skip Prosser and Roy Williams as well as assistants from Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas, and Georgetown all stopped in to watch Augustin.
The 6-foot-1 point guard has yet to receive an offer from any school, but that will change soon enough. There are a number of schools pushing to get involved in Augustin's recruitment and he is receiving lots of mail and phone calls.
"I'm getting a lot of letters and big pamphlets, and they (schools) have been calling my AAU coach, Jackson. They call him a lot to check to up on me," Augustin stated. "Everything is good and there are a lot of people sending a lot of stuff and I'm just wide open right now."
Augustin, who is rated the second best point guard in his class by Scout.com, said that there are four schools that are jockeying for position in his recruitment.
"I don't have any top schools, because it could really change up any day but at this point I like UNC, Wake Forest, LSU, and Texas," Augustin said. "I don't really have a top three or anything. I don't have any leaders."
Many have thought that because Augustin lives in Louisiana, that LSU has the upper hand in his recruitment. But Augustin made it clear that although he is considering LSU, he wouldn't mind leaving the state.
"A lot of people ask me if it would be hard to leave home, and I just tell them honestly no it wouldn't," Augustin proclaimed. "A lot of people think that I'm going to LSU just because LSU is in Louisiana. I just tell them I'm wide open and wouldn't mind leaving home."
Wake Forest has a stellar point guard right now in Chris Paul, and he is a part of the reason Augustin is strongly considering the Demon Deacons.
"I like their offense and their point guard Chris Paul," stated Augustin. "He does a lot of offensive things to get everybody else open. They let him drive and do things to get others open and that's how I play."
While the previous two mentioned schools are listed high on Augustin's list, so is North Carolina. Augustin grew up watching the Tar Heels and that's one reason he would love to play at North Carolina.
"I have always liked North Carolina since I was little, it's a big school and on T.V. a lot. Every little kid likes North Carolina! I like Roy Williams a lot and I like their style of play and how they fast break a lot."
