Deacons Offer Cooter

With the vast amount of verbal commitments – 17 to be exact – and rumors floating around about lack of scholarships to give, one might think the Wake Forest coaching staff would rest their recruiting efforts.

Apparently that isn't the case.

"Wake Forest just offered me," stated Mocksville (N.C.) Davie High School's James Arnold. "They told my coach, Coach Illing, on Thursday. Coach Lambert called me the night I got the offer."

Arnold is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound pure athlete sporting a 4.40-second forty-yard dash time, with instincts and vision to match. The Scout.com three-star prospect might be better suited for cornerback, but Arnold, who also garners offers from Clemson, East Carolina, Auburn, and North Carolina claims all coaching staffs are recruiting him for tailback.

Thus far in his senior season, Arnold has amassed 1,613 yards and 22 touchdowns on 172 carries from his quarterback position. On defense, "Cooter" picked off six passes early in the season, but has seen limited passes in his direction since.

Despite entering the "Cooter" sweepstakes so "late" in the game, the Demon Deacons are in very good shape currently tied with the Tar Heels as leaders for Arnold's services.

"I'm pretty interested," remarked Arnold, who is also looking at Clemson in addition to WFU and UNC. "They are one of my favorite schools."

Arnold is no stranger to the Deacon Deacons' coaching staff, who have been in contact with him for the past few years. "Coach Lambert, he calls a couple of times. He called some last year, too. He invited me to a basketball game, and I went to a couple of football games too."

Arnold plans to officially visit North Carolina in November, and hopes to set up an official visit to both Clemson and Wake Forest before he makes his final decision.
